Karen Blake's life is hard enough: the eldest sister of four, she has been struggling to keep her family together after the recent deaths of their parents. She'd like to think she's used to things going from bad to worse. But one late night, an unknown stranger entrusts her with an incredible object: the Watcher. She finds herself - and her family - pulled into the clash between two factions of an ancient, hidden culture fighting for control of the Watcher's power.
